Description of facilities: There is a TV with video & DVD players & a large selection of DVD's, videos & books. There is also a selection of board games suitable for all the family. The washing machine & ironing & drying facilities are found in the separate utility room, as well as under-cover storage available for boots, bicycles, pushchairs & even boats if needed.
Description inside property: The Byre is a converted barn/longère which is part of a 19thcentury"fermette" (small farm), at Crampoisic, in rural central Brittany, where we still keep free-range chickens & ducks, which you are welcome to visit & feed & collect your own wonderful, really fresh eggs! True country living and yet only five minutes from the Lac de Guerlédan with its beaches & watersports! The Byre is a truly rustic open-plan stone-built barn, with pointed stone walls & beamed ceilings, unfitted kitchen and huge antique Breton dresser holding pots & pans & crockery, with a large mezzanine/ "minstrels' gallery" sleeping area, but still having modern kitchen facilities to give you a real home from home for your holiday.
If you are tired of overly modernised small cottages with lots of tiny rooms and are looking for something a little more "authentic" or want to try open-plan living, then the Byre could be the holiday home you are looking for.
Double-glazed French doors open from the terrace into the open-plan living/dining/kitchen area. The living area has comfortable sofa & armchairs, TV with video & DVD players with a video & DVD library, CD player with radio, & bookcase with a selection of books for your holiday reading & board games for those special family evenings you will remember long after your holiday. The attractive glass-fronted woodburning stove will help keep you cosy all year round. All the firewood supplied is sourced from our own sustainabe forest. Our firewood is from coppiced trees that naturally regenerate.
The farmhouse table & authentic Breton benches seat eight comfortably, in this area is the antique Breton buffet which holds plenty of crockery & kitchen equipment, as well as lots of wine glasses so that can sample the wonderful variety of French wines. (You will amazed how inexpensive nice wine is here) The kitchen has fridge, gas cooker, toaster, microwave & coffee maker & an extra table. The washing machine is in the separate utility room.
The ground floor bathroom has a full-size bath with shower over & electric heater.
There is a Scandinavian style bedroom on the ground floor with a double bed & electric heating. On the spacious mezzanine / minstrels' gallery are two single beds & a double, separate from the main living space, but not isolated & with a view of the flickering flames of the woodburner, very restful after a busy day at the beach. There is also a double sofa-bed below the mezzanine, bringing the potential sleepng capacity up to eight if required.
Description outside property: There is a large, pretty, courtyard garden and sunny lawn area with picnic tables and chairs in front of the gite. There is a large built-in barbecue. The garden is perfect for al fresco dining or enjoying an aperitif before dinner, or just relaxing after a busy day at the beach or exploring the lovely countryside & market towns of central Brittany. There is also plenty of room on the lawn for sunbathing, relaxing or even playing games for the more energetic! There are lovely country walks leading from the garden and our own "six acre wood" to explore just a three minute walk down a quiet country lane. Off-road parking and covered secure storage for boats, cycles etc is also available.
At the end of our own back garden behind the farmhouse we keep free-range chickens and ducks, you are welcome to come and visit them and help us collect eggs (children especially love doing this). We grow our own fruit and vegetables as organically as possible and these are available in season, along with home-made preserves & bread and our own free-range eggs.
Description of eco friendly facilities: The majority of heating & much of the cooking at Crampoisic is achieved with modern efficient woodburning stoves. We coppice wood from our own forest for firewood, fence posts etc, treating our trees as a renewable resource & reducing the use of fossil fuels.
Our major appliances such as washing machine, fridges & freezers are all A rated for efficiency & we use low energy bulbs wherever possible indoors & solar lights outdoors.
We grow our own fruit & vegetables & keep free-range chickens, ducks & geese, which provide wonderful fresh eggs with zero food miles & also natural fertilizer for the gardens, any vegetable waste not eaten by the chickens is composted!

Description of local area and activities: Crampoisic is situated on a hillside near a manoir, overlooking a picturesque valley in a quiet rural setting, just five minutes from the lovely sandy beach of "Beau Rivage" at Lake Guerlédan.
The lake is a renowned centre for watersports & excellent carp fishing, with several popular sandy beaches suitable for all the family, "vedette" tour boats, a floating restaurant with a very good, reasonably priced dinner cruise around the lake, sailing schools, canoe & kayak hire, a water-skiing club which offers lessons & waterski boat hire, crazy golf course & friendly bars, restaurants & crêperies also offering motorboat & pedalo hire.
We are 3 km from the town of St Mayeux, between Mur-de-Bretagne and Corlay. St Mayeux has its own menhirs (standing stones) as well as the parish church with its 16th century calvaire (cross) & bell tower, which were rescued from the Abbey at Bon Repos after the Revolution & moved stone by stone by the locals. There are local shops, post office(at the Mayor's office) and bar.
Mûr de Bretagne is only 8km away from Crampoisic and has both local shops, cafés and supermarket, there is a market every Friday evening during the summer, with live musical entertainment in the square. Mûr also has a challenging mini-golf course suitable for introducing the younger members of the family to that sport.
Rather larger golf courses are found at Pontivy and Saint Brieuc, just 30 or 40 minutes away. The market towns of Pontivy, Rostrenen & "Petite Cité de Caractère" Quintin are only 25 minutes away & we are 40 minutes from the lively coastal city of St Brieuc. The beautiful mediaeval city of Vannes is less than an hour away. At an hour from the dramatic, craggy north coast & the long sandy beaches of the west coast and the cosmopolitan cities of Lorient and Brest, we are ideally situated for exploring both coast & countryside.
You can experience and take part in Breton dances at a Fest Noz (night festival) or Fest Diez (day festival), these often feature traditional singers, "sonneurs" who play bombarde and biniou or clarinet, larger traditional bands and even folk-rock bands. During the summer, many of these dances are held outdoors; locally the Fest Noz at St Mayeux and St Gilles Vieux Marché (an award-winning floral village) in July and Mûr de Bretagne in mid August take place in magnificent settings & attract many hundreds of local people and visitors. |

| Notes: My husband is a musician, he sings & plays traditional Celtic music & Blues on acoustic guitar & mandola. Why not combine traditional music workshops or guitar lessons with your holiday, at times to suit you in the relaxed rural setting of Crampoisic in central Brittany. |
