Description inside property: A typical traditional Valencian townhouse in Palma de Gandia on the "Costa del Azahar" or the "Orange Blossom Coast". In a quiet cul-de-sac of 4 other Spanish owned properties in the historic part of town, 5 kms from Gandia and Oliva.
Featured on Channel 4 "A Place in the Sun" in 2004 we have renovated and brought this property into the 20th century but it is thought to be well over 100 years old. The property oozes character and charm and is a delightful cosy home from home. This area of town has lots of quaint Arab influences, narrow lanes and passageways which criss cross with small squares and quiet cool parks. Palma de Gandia nestles under the Safor mountains and is almost surrounded by orange groves which stretch down to the sea. There are many beaches to choose from (over 17km) some are Blue Flag beaches with beach and water sports and some are rustic, backed by tamerisk trees. You will find your favourite. The nearest beaches are Bellregard, Piles and Miramar - about 5kms from Palma. On renovation, we have kept the original Valencian features with the huge old Valencian doorway with glass windows and rejas ironwork and the original tiles around the fireplace which the priest blessed and the quaint Valencian cupboard.
The front door opens onto a spacious L shaped living area with vaulted beamed ceilings where there is seating area to take advantage of the summer breeze. There is also a second sitting area which has a reverse air conditioning unit, TV/CD/DVD and fireplace. There is dining area with seating for 4 and the kitchen/diner has new units and appliances and opens onto the patio. There are two bedrooms 1 double (with ceiling fan) and 1 twin bedroom both have floor to ceiling wardrobes. The bathroom is fully tiled and has a shower. Outside is a large private south facing patio with garden shrubs and trees, garden furniture and a bbq. Just 2 minutes stroll from the house is the bakery where Jose and Rosa can supply you with fresh bread in the morning and just round the corner is a butcher, a small supermarket, a chemist and an ATM. There are other small shops and a doctor and dentist. We feel we should support our local shops but in Gandia and Oliva you will find a wider selection of supermarkets and shops. There are many tapas bars where you can get a snack or an evening meal and some lovely walks through the cool orange groves or down to the river.
Gandia is famous for its connection with the Borgia family: where Rodrigues Borgia, Lucretia and Cesere lived and where you will find their palace. Rodriques Borgia became the infamous Pope Alexander VI involved with murders and intrigue. The old historic centre of Gandia is traffic free and you will find boutique shops, tapas bars and cafes. There is also a museum and a beautiful catherdral. Gandia playa is about 1km from the city. Oliva just 8 kms south has two areas, the new where the beach resort is situated and an old Moorish part where the castle of Santa Ana dominates the steep historic winding streets with its pristine whitewashed homes. Friday morning is market day and an experience not to be missed - with all the usual handbags, sheets and blankets and fresh vegetables and fruit. Both Gandia and Oliva have a wide tree lined paseo where you can sit in the shade and have a drink and people watch.
More details can be obtained from our web site, please ask us for details.
Description outside property: The traditionally tiled rear patio is very private and faces south.

Description of local area and activities: Briefly, our area has it all, from historic castles, theme/safari/water parks, medieval cobbled towns, caves, waterfalls and vineyards where you do some wine tasting.
There is some excellent walking along the ice trails, old disused railway lines, and le Val de Gallinera.
For days out when you have got tired of building sandcastles visit Elche, with its ancient palm forest: the largest in Europe it also has a basillica which holds the life size statue of Jose Marie Escriver founder of Opus Dei. Theres Roman remains, museums and on the outskirts are massive factory shoe outlets. There are castles in Alicante, Javea and Denia and at Xativa is a castle which is perched over 3 peaks: this is where Rodrigues Borgia lived (later to become Pope Alexander VI - father of Lucretia and Cesere) and Hannibal lived. In Utiel you could have lunch in Vincente Gandia's Vineyard, do some winetasting and take a tour of the vineyard. Peniscola is where El Cid was filmed and the old castle and fortified town was rebuilt especially for the filming. Sangunto has a Roman Amphitheatre and old Jewish Quarter and this is just to name some of the places of interest.
Valencia is also just a short train journey and is where you can see the Holy Grail in the Cathedral, marvel at the fruit and vegetables in the oldest indoor market in Europe and take a visit to the City of Arts & Sciences. 2008 sees the Bernie Ecclestone Formula 1 race track take shape within the city and the 33rd Americas Cup (Valencia has hosted this twice). Valencia is an up and coming city to rival Barcelona and more flights are coming into Valencia from all over Europe.
March is a popular time to visit with the Easter processions and the Fallas Festivals and later in the year there are Moors & Christians battles throughout the area. This is an area that mostly Spanish people visit and it is one area of Spain which has not been spoilt by mass tourism - yet.
We have over 17km of beaches and if you get tired of building sandcastles there are lots of places to see and visit.
Most sports are catered for in the summer and bikes and scuba diving equipment can be hired locally. There is a scuba diving school locally and the area is most famous for its walking trails, especially the old ice routes. More details can be obtained from our web site, please ask us for details. |

| Notes: Oliva Nova is just south of the old Moorish town of Oliva - it is an 18 hole Severiano Ballesteros course and there are some small shops on the complex, a cafe and a lovely stretch of beach |
| |
|
Notes: There are are some beautifully illustrated walking trails which can be obtained from our local tourist information centre or you could email them and they will send the guides back to you in the post. However, they are obtainable over the internet but not quite the same - nice quality paper and quality of colour.
There is also sea and river fishing available - the latter you will need a license from Palma Town Hall. |
