Description inside property: Casa Bottini is on the first floor (second floor to Americans) of a 17th Century town house (seen with open windows in the photo). This is where the servants of nearby Villa Bottini used to live and as such it has been restructured into separate apartments to a high standard under the supervision of the Belle Arte Society.
Visitors enter directly into a good size living room / kitchen with terracotta tiled floors and the original beams exposed. The general impression is very attractive. The furniture is well chosen and comfortable and the sitting area is set to the front where the windows look out onto the Church of San Michelotto (decommissioned) opposite – see photos. the kitchen / dining area is well-equipped (hob only) and designed with the units of cherry wood. At the back of it is a small laundry room.
To the left of the living area is a small alcove off which are a bathroom (with shower), a single bedroom which can double as a study, and a twin bedroom, everything again to a high standard of comfort and décor. The third bedroom, a double, is at the back of the apartment and comes with a bathroom (with shower) ensuite. From the windows visitors get a glimpse of the gardens of the villa.
Description outside property: Apart from its accommodation, one of the main attractions of Casa Bottini is its central position. The gardens of the villa at the back are open to the public and the church opposite with its cloisters is on open space while the Botanic Garden (Orto Botanico) is only a couple of hundred metres away and is open to the public. This means that inside, the apartment is light and airy while shade and greenery are available nearby even during the bustle and heat of summer.

| Description of local area and activities: Lucca is fast catching up with Siena as people’s favourite city. It is a busy, bustling city, smaller than Siena and one of its enormous charms lies in the fact that it is still surrounded by its city walls, completed in 1645 to replace the medieval walls, which in turn replaced the original Roman walls. The centuries of history contained within the walls, from medieval churches to 18th C villas, are impossible to sum up in a few brief sentences and it is enough to say that for anyone on holiday, the city can be taken on many different levels. |

|
Notes: As outlined above, the apartment is set within an attractive, lively part of central Lucca. Guests report that the restaurant/pizzeria on the street below is one of best in Lucca while nearby there is also a choice of bars for a morning cappuccino. Another plus is the market that takes place on a street nearby every Wednesday and Saturday morning, selling everything from bundles of cabbage seedlings, to espresso coffee makers, wooden spoons and agricultural implements
Eating: An ample choice of restaurants, bars and pasticcerie within walking distance Shopping: Excellent. Famous names boutiques, speciality food shops, market and supermarkets Culture: Theatre and concerts (specially Puccini), art exhibitions, churches, villas. The Walls: Good for cycling (easy bike hire), picnic areas, children’s play areas, jogging Festivals: Throughout the year although particularly in September Distances: Florence 67kms, Pisa 20kms, Viareggio 19kms. |
