Description inside property: The apartment is on the third floor of an 18th Century ‘palazzo’ (the Italian word for a town house) within the city walls.
Visitors walk into an entrance hall where a certain style is immediately established, from the parquet floor throughout the apartment, the antique furniture, and the large and interesting painting (by the owner’s brother in law) on the wall opposite the front door.
Immediately ahead of the entrance is the bedroom, a very pleasant room with double bed, nice furniture and a view across the roofs of Lucca from the window. The small passageway on from the entrance hall has the shower room and toilet on the left and then leads into the living / dining room. This has an original beamed ceiling, paintings on the wall, simple (in the best sense of the word) antique furniture and the same view from the window as from the bedroom. All this not forgetting 2 sofas for relaxing one of which doubles as a sofa-bed.
The living room leads into a separate, well-equipped, ‘galley’ kitchen. This has well chosen features, like an original stone sink, pots and pans hanging on the wall and modern hob and oven.
Altogether Casa Flora is most attractive and is ideal for a couple who are looking to enjoy Lucca from an apartment that is also delightful in its own right. The stairs up are a relatively easy climb compensated for by having views across the roofs and belltowers of Lucca to the mountains beyond.
Description outside property: The 'palazzo' in which Casa Flora is an apartment, was commissioned by a certain Lorenzo Orsucci, a rich Lucca nobleman. Signor Orsucci chose an architect from Pisa who was well up on different European architectural styles and in fact still today the ‘Palazzo Orsucci’ stands out from other Lucca houses of the 18th Century for its originality.

Description of local area and activities: The Palazzo Orsucci is part of a busy street within a lively part of central Lucca. Locals cycle along the street on their way to work or to do the shopping and tourists wander along with maps in their hands. Immediately on hand there are bars and shops, churches and museums. The walls are a very short walk away so that the morning could start with a jog or indeed a stroll in the other direction for morning coffee at ‘De Simo’, the bar which Giacomo Puccini the opera composer used to frequent and which has changed very little since his time. On the wider front Lucca is a transport hub so that day return visits to Florence, Pisa, Viareggio and the Garfagnana are highly feasible.
Eating: Excellent. A full choice of restaurants from luxury, to trattorie to salads bars and pizzas Shopping: Famous names boutiques, speciality food shops, market and supermarkets Culture: Theatre and concerts (specially Puccini), art exhibitions, churches, villas. The Walls: 5kms round. Good for cycling (easy bike hire), picnic areas, children’s play areas, jogging Festivals: Throughout the year but particularly in September Distances: Florence 67kms, Pisa 20kms, Viareggio 19km
