Corse

Corsica is a beautiful Mediterranean island off the south of France. To get to Corsica you can fly from Paris and London, or take the ferry from Nice, Marseille or Toulon in the south of France. The climate is hot and dry during the long summer. During the winter the mountains are covered with snow from October to April.
The varied Corsican cuisine ranges from wild game and wild boar sausages to deliciously fresh seafood platters. All of this can be washed down with some exciting local wines from Patrimonio and Sartenais.

Activities

The rugged mountains have several ski areas for down hill skiing and other winter sports. The coastline offers masses of outdoor activities such as; sailing, snorkeling, diving, water skiing, swimming, boating, wind surfing and fishing. St.Florent is probably the largest seaside resort. If you are coming to Corsica to relax, there’s no better way to do it than at one of the excellent spas. From the high land it is possible to see the south of France on a clear day. The countryside and scenery in Corsica are stunning, and probably the best way to enjoy them is to stay in a privately owned self-catering villa, apartment or chalet.

Historical sites

Corsica has been part of France’s history for centuries. Here are a few interesting historical nuggets of information: Napoleon was born at Ajaccio; Christopher Columbus at Calvi and Nelson lost his eye at the siege of Calvi. As a result of its history, Calvi also boasts a beautiful Citadel and ramparts overlooking the sea. Also worth visiting is the museum of Roman and Greek artifacts, which were recovered locally at Aleria.
