Description of facilities: There is unlimited use of the internet via a Wanadoo connection - the area does not (as of autumn 2007) have broadband but we are told it is coming to this little rural corner very soon.. but what Orange means by soon is as yet unknown!
Description inside property: This ancient house has been renovated to a high standard but still retails the super beams, exposed stone walls, large stone and bricou fireplace, old stone sink etc - it has a wonderful 'feel' and is welcoming and comfortable and pretty. There is a Welcome Pack of wine, cheese, fruit juice, milk, fruit, teabags, coffee and bread for your arrival - so even if you arrive tired and hungry you can relax straight away, or make yourself a cup of tea/coffee.
We provide high quality bed linen and towels and tea towels with a change available each week. The kitchen is equipped for 4 / 6 people so you can either eat in or go out to the many restaurants serving anything from the local specialities such as foie gras, magret de canard, confit to even a McDonalds !
The garden is fenced for the safety of your pets/children and is full of flowering shrubs and plants - there is a new (in 2007) high quality wood-framed above-ground pool (6m x 3m and 1.2m deep) for cooling off in the heat of the summer and two terraces, one with BBQ, plus sun loungers and chairs and table.
We have tried to think of everything to make your holiday truly relaxing and a joy to remember in years to come - full photos and details etc can be found on the dedicated website. Please ask us for details.
Description outside property: The garden is a joy at all seasons - with flower beds, bamboo, flowering shrubs and mature trees - including the Hazelnut Tree from which the cottage gets its name
Children can play happily and safely as it is fenced, and the pool is above grove and therefore safely out of the way of tiny children.
The area offers good country walks/cycle rides and lots to see and do - or simply a place to relax in with that good book.
Description of eco friendly facilities: We do try to be eco-friendly within the limits of practicality in France which has not yet really accepted the full impact of global warming - so we compost our garden waste, try not to use powerful weedkillers, use low energy bulbs wherever possible and have used high quality insulation to conserve heat. We are not perfect but we are doing our best!

Description of local area and activities: There is simply so much to do in this area that it is difficult to know where to start
The Dordogne is known as the country of a thousand chateaux .... there are some of the most famous vineyards within easy driving distance (Ste Emilion/Monbazillac/ Entre deux Mers/Bergerac/Duras/Sauternes/ Medoc/Bordeaux) there are lakes to swim in, rivers to canoe down, forests to explore.
If you like markets then there is Vergt on Fridays (the capital of the strawberry industry and a wonderful place to visit therefore in May and June) Bergerac and Perigueux on Wednesdays and Saturdays, Issigeac on Sundays, Ste Foy la Grande on Saturdays, Le Bugue on Tuesdays ..... where you will find an abundance of local produce, smiling faces and wonderful opportunities to practise your french
Bergerac and Perigueux (about 20 mins drive) both have superb ancient pedestrianised centres with small shops and little restaurants and bars and pattiseries full of those mouth watering fruit tarts and chocolates and breads
The Dordogne is not a place to start a diet - but you may need one when you get back home!
If you are an afficianado of Prehistory then there are the Lascaux caves and the whole of the Unesco recognised World Heritage Valley of the Vézère - and the National Museum of Prehistory at Les Eyzies. If the medieval era fascinates you then the whole of South West France lies at your doorstep with its villages and romanesque churches and archways .....
Why not come and see for yourself - we have leaflets on almost all the attractions and places to visit available at Hazelnut Cottage for you to browse through |
