Description of facilities: La Fontaine has a brand new fully fitted kitchen and laundry with every convenience.
Description inside property: Welcome to la Fontaine
La Fontaine is a lovely house in the country, but with all the amenities of the beautiful town of Monpazier close at hand.
The house has been extensively remodelled to a very high standard over the last few years, to provide a spacious and comfortable home with every amenity. It has five bedrooms, four doubles and a twin. Three have en-suite bath or shower rooms, in addition to which there is a beautifully equipped family bathroom. There is a WC in every bath/shower room plus two others (water for the WC’s comes from our own pond). In the lounge one of the three settees converts into a double bed, ideal for accommodating unexpected guests. One of the bedrooms is in the pigeonnier itself which has been beautifully remodelled with extensive use of oak and chestnut. All our beds are very comfortable traditional French sleigh beds; bedding and towels are provided.
We have tried to provide for your every need, such as providing towels for pool use and putting hair-dryers in every bathroom, so that you can reduce the amount of luggage you need to bring with you.
The choice of La Fontaine for our home in France was dictated not just by the obvious attractions of the house and its surroundings, but also by its location. La Fontaine is perfectly situated. It is a house in the country, but with all the amenities of the beautiful town of Monpazier only 400 metres away. Among other amenities Monpazier has restaurants, bars, supermarkets, butchers, bakers, banks, a pharmacy, a hairdresser, a newsagent and stationer, a petrol station, a post-office and more, all a short walk from the house. But, other than Bastille Day, when the town puts on a splendid firework display, you wouldn’t normally be aware that it was there.
The house, which is south-facing, has a superb view of the town of Monpazier to the east, and commanding views over the valley of the river Dropt and the rolling hills beyond, to the south.
There is a very large (nearly 100 square metres) lounge/dining room with armchairs and settees for relaxing in, and a dining table with seating for twelve. There is satellite television with a VCR/DVD player, a radio/tape/CD/MP3 player, an Internet Radio and broadband WiFi access for your entertainment.
The lounge opens out onto a 30 metre verandah, the cusine d’ete (summer kitchen), spacious terrace, pool and spa.
The kitchen is fully equipped with ceramic hob, oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer etc. but in the warmth of a summer’s evening most people prefer to be outside where there is a full sized barbecue and seating for twelve in the cuisine d’ete and splendid views of Monpazier and the valley of the river Dropt.
There is a fully equipped laundry, including washing machine, tumble dryer, airer, iron and ironing board.
Description outside property: La Fontaine stands in grounds of about an acre, with an adjacent four and a half acre field and started life several hundred years ago as a Pigeonnier. Subsequently a house was built onto it which we have renovated and extended to provide extremely comfortable accommodation for ten or more people. La Fontaine is located in the quiet hamlet of Fontaine de Soubirou, adjacent to Monpazier.
Outside there is a chlorine-free (automatic electrolytic (salt) system) heated swimming pool ten metres by five with roman steps plus a heated spa bath. The pool has an electrically operated cover to comply with local safety requirements, which not only acts as a safety measure but also helps to keep the pool warm and clean when not in use.
The spa provides a wonderful way to pamper yourself and is the perfect place for sipping champagne on a warm summer’s evening.
The pool terrace, as well as the cuisine d’ete, verandah, paths and steps are paved with natural limestone which is non-slip and easy on the feet, in addition to which studying the fossils in the paving provides an interesting diversion.
One of the features of the house is the 30 metre long verandah which helps to keep the house cool on hot summer days, but in the winter allows the winter sun into the house.
The garage will accommodate two or three cars, depending on their size, and the driveway will accommodate many more, so parking is never a problem
