Description outside property: The cottage has its own area of garden. Shared grounds surround this, with hammocks, swings and a slide. There is plenty of space to play ball games alongside the cottages. We have a paddling pool and sand pit, available on request.

A covered hangar in the grounds makes a great spot for a barbecue and there is an abundance of fruit and nut trees including cherry and walnut.

Adjacent to the play area is a field where we keep our livestock. We currently have 3 ouessant sheep, a miniature breed from the west of Brittany, and 8 chickens. The chickens are free-ranging and their eggs are available for purchase during your stay.

Additional Information

Description of local area and activities: Our home is just off the old Coast Road from Pontorson to Saint Malo.

Our most famous local attraction is Mont St Michel, 4kms from us as the crow flies, and a very gentle cycle ride away. We have great views of Mont St Michel from both the front and the back of our home, with the vast expanse of farmland, reclaimed by the Dutch in the 1700’s in the foreground.

All year round you can explore the bay of Mont St Michel on foot or on horse-back. At certain times of year, high tide produces a stunning effect when the sea rushes in to fill the bay.

Beaches
The closest beaches are at Hirel and Cherrueiux 15 minutes to the west. There are lots of little beaches up towards Cancale and a favourite for families is at Le Verger just north of Cancale. You can also head east to explore the beaches on the way to Granville.

Swimming
The nearest indoor pool is about 25 mins away at Dol de Bretagne.

Local Shopping
We are in a small hamlet. The nearest village, a mile away has a bakery, butchers and convenience store. There is a choice of supermarkets 5 mins away in the car. The bakery van visits the hamlet 3 times a week.

Restaurants
La Baie du Mont St Michel, where we are, is famous throughout France for the quality of mussels, the only AOC approved mussels in France, and oysters farmed here. Cancale, 30 mins from here, claims the title ‘world gastronomy site’ and is home to the oyster beds and a bewildering array of seafood restaurants.

Closer to home there is a good selection of restaurants, many promoting local salt marsh lamb (pre-sale).

We love food and offer food for guests. We can provide anything from a light supper for the day you arrive, a home cooked meal to eat in your cottage, to a four course meal with wine.

Some places to visit include:
Avranches houses the scriptorium with the holy books from Mont St Michel, and World War II museum

Cancale is home of oyster beds and host to oyster museum.

Cherriuex hosts sand yachting, and the petit train, which will take you out to explore the mussel beds

Combourg has a castle and a lovely weekly market

Dinan has another castle, set high above a river. A mediaeval town, with timber-framed houses. Don’t miss the walk down a long cobbled street to the port.

Dol de Bretagne was noted as the last stand for Conan, who was defeated by William the Conqueror with the help of Harold, who was later shot in the eye by his ally. There is a cathedral and cathedral museum

Etang Boulet is a 300 acre lake with a sandy beach, near Feins, with sailing and watersports as well as bike hire and walking trails through the forest around the lake

Fougères boasts the largest mediaeval castle in Europe. There is pretty park on the way.

Le Petit Mont St Michel is a model of Mont St Michel plus ‘dated’ mechanical rides, trampolines, go karts and assortment of cycles. Kids up to 9 definitely love it (so far) and adults can join in.

St Malo is a fortified town set on the headland, with an aquarium on the outskirts, and vast beaches.

Leisure Activities - Golf
