Sayalonga Sayalonga is a picturesque village consisting of narrow winding passages and snow white buildings in the province of Malaga, Andalucia in southern Spain. Sayalonga is just 44 km from Malaga and 28km from the town of Velez-Malaga and 9km from the coast. To the West lies la Rabita Hill. This was the site of a sanctuary or monastery of warrior monks introduced by the Arabs from the eleventh century. Festivals and events There are a number of festivals, fares and carnivals throughout the year, the most important being related to food and is called Dia del Nispero or Loquat Day. There is much merriment, music song and dance at these events, so if you happen to be renting a holiday home in the area during one of these vibrant celebrations, you are sure to have a memorable time. Places worth visiting The Cathedral, Picasso Museum in Malaga and the Magnificent Medieval Alhambra Palace in Granada are all worth a visit. Cuisine The usual delicious Mediterranean ingredients are used in the diverse dishes to be found in the restaurants in this lovely town, but there are some typical local dishes such as cachorrena soup made with oranges and garlic, pumpkin fried with oregano which is a traditional Moorish dish. Fried breadcrumbs with herrings and grapes is another delicious local dish usually accompanied by tasty Corumbela bread baked in wood-fired oven. To compliment your meal you will not be disappointed with the fine muscatel wine produced by the local vineyards and which is made using the old non-industrial methods. There is an abundance of delicious tropical fruits such as mangos and loquats which are used along with raisins and honey to create exciting and mouth watering deserts.
