Additional Information

Description of local area and activities: The medieval village of Meyrals is an attractive and convenient base for your holiday. Sandwiched as it is,between the Dordogne and Vezere rivers, numerous major attractions of the Dordogne region are within a short drive.

The village has an award-winning boulangerie/epicerie where bread and basic provisions can be purchased. The Auberge at the centre of village serves a range of good quality dishes including many of the local delicacies at very reasonable prices or visit the friendly local bar for a drink or an inexpensive meal (including excellent freshly made pizza).

A ten minute drive takes you to Lez Eyzie, " the world capital of prehistory" with its profusion of caves displaying art and carvings from thousands of years ago, and the 'National Museum of prehistory. Canoes may be hired on the Vezere which flows parallel to the main street. Canoeing is also available on the Dordogne with trips beginning at the small town of St. Cyprien, 10 minutes drive to the south of Meyrals.

A visit to St. Cyprien is a must on Sunday morning when locals pour into the main street for the weekly market. Stalls piled with local produce provide both interest and a taste of life in the Dordogne!

The market held in the medieval town of Sarlat is said to be the biggest in south-west France. Wander the picturesque narrow streets, taste the local cheeses or walnut cake, or just relax with a coffee whilst admiring the well preserved buildings.

Return by way of Beynac one of the many castles to be visited in the Dordogne valley! Follow the Dordogne in the direction of Bergerac to reach the vineyards and caves from which to buy your wine supplies to take home!
