Description of local area and activities: Orba is a really pretty Spanish village offering a great range of local facilities, and is an ideal base from which to explore the area. The village facilities include various shops - butchers, bakers, greengrocer, off-licence, newsagent, a pharmacy, plus medical & dental surgeries. Orba also has a weekly market on Wednesdays, three banks, & three supermarkets of varying sizes. It also has "Julie's" - an English supermarket that sells just about anything a British visitor might require. There are about a dozen restaurants of various types and styles, bars with pavement tables, local interest shops, together with a working pottery which sells direct to the public. A 20 minute drive through the Orba valley's beautiful orange groves will bring you to the closest beaches, which are at Denia and Vergel. The beaches of Moraira, Javea, Calpe and Gandia are about 30 mins drive. Benidorm beaches 40 mins drive. The coastline offers a variety of long sandy beaches, stunning picture postcard bays and sheltered coves. Watersports, including Boating, Windsurfing, Snorkelling and scuba, & various boat trips are available off the coast of Denia. Close by are many interesting towns and villages including the historic cliff top castle at Guadalest - built by the Moors around 300BC. Most of the local towns and villages (including Orba) have a weekly market and fiestas (festivals) throughout the year. Karting and quad-biking are available locally Carp fishing trips with a local guide & equipment available for hire. There are plenty of mountain bike tracks offering easy & challenging routes Family cycling & walking on the level, traffic-free tracks & trails that criss-cross the Orba valley Hiking - there are many opportunities within the area for exploring on foot, ranging from lazy walks through to strenuous & demanding mountain trails For the children big and small, how about a day out at one or all of these fun parks! The Aqualandia Water Park, Mundomar Marine Animal Park & the Terra Mitica Theme Park can all be found at Benidorm. El Vergel Safari Park is about 1/2 hour by car Shopping - Denia is a substantial coastal town with a large selection of shops of all kinds, it's about 20 minutes drive. Plenty of parking available. Head to the Balearics - Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza are a ferry ride away from Denia. The caves at Benidoleig (about 5 minutes) are well worth a visit Take the Narrow Gauge Railway from Denia to Alicante and back. This is a one-metre gauge line running along the coast through Benidorm. There are many opportunities locally to participate in a wide range of water-based sporting and leisure activities. Yachting and Boating at Denia and Javea Marinas Located in the southeast section of the port, this marina completes the magnificent line-up of facilities available in Denia. Each year a growing number of sailing enthusiasts from different countries use this area as their home base in view of the attractions of the Costa Blanca and the amenities to be found here. Situated only 48 nautical miles from the Balearics, the Denia Yacht Club offers an excellent base for boating in the Mediterranean. The Port of Javea, adjacent to Cabo San Antonio, has 352 moorings. Within a short sailing trip from the port are the capes of San Antonio and San Martín. Sailing south around Portichol Island towards the Cabo de la Nao leads you to the clear waters of Granadella cove. Just south of Cabo San Antonio and close to a marine nature reserve, the Club Nautico de Javea has excellent amenities including a restaurant, café, social hall and swimming pool. There is also a light sailing craft school operating during the summer months and on weekends throughout the rest of the year. Sub-Aqua and Scuba, the coast to the south of the port - highlighted against the backdrop of the rugged Montgo nature reserve - is characterised by cliffs and rocky inlets with clear waters that stretch as far as Cabo San Antonio. This is a natural marine reserve which forms an ideal setting for diving enthusiasts. The under-water visibility in this part of the Mediterranean Sea is very good, especially at the locations further away from the coast. Visibility ranges of 20 to 40 meters (or approximately 65 to 130 feet) is quite normal. There are some days with heavier seas which reduce visibility, but these are relatively rare. There are plenty of dive sites to choose from, so you should be able to find at least one with calm seas. Sea Excursions, Marítimas Mundo Marino specialises in sea excursions and has bases in the ports of Denia, Javea and Calpe. The company operates pleasure-boat trips between the Cap San Antonio and the Rock de Ifach. These trips are an excellent way for non-sailors to discover the hidden charms of this part of the Costa Blanca.
